Unisys Announces Winners of Cloud 20/20 Technical Paper Contest
1500 submissions received for one of India's biggest online technical contests
Bangalore, February 16, 2010 – Unisys India today announced the results of the Cloud 20/20 Student Technical Paper Contest, designed to encourage innovative ideas and recognise the emerging technical talent from India's leading engineering colleges.
Deepak Karunakaran from International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bangalore was awarded the first prize for his entry on the topic Optimizing Workloads for Cloud Computing, and walked away the proud owner of an Apple Macbook Air laptop. The first runner-up, Kiran GVR from International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, won a Sony Vaio laptop for his entry on the topic Application Modernization, and the second runner-up, Karthik Sankar from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, won a Nokia N97 mobile phone for his paper on the topic Application Development for the Cloud. Apple iPod Nanos were given out as consolation prizes to three other deserving participants.
The three winners have also been offered an internship to explore career opportunities with Unisys India.
Almost 1500 submissions were received from more than 570 national educational institutions, including premier institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NIT) and Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani.
The technical papers were reviewed by a panel of eminent judges, including:

The contestants went through several rigorous rounds of evaluation, including a technical paper challenge, interviews and final presentations, before the judges selected the winners.
"India has the potential to produce world-class innovation, and initiatives such as Cloud 20/20 help challenge and inspire budding innovators to come up with revolutionary concepts," said Professor Sadagopan, Founder Director of International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bangalore. "It is promising to see companies such as Unisys promote research and innovation on such a large and inclusive scale in India's academic community."

Launched in October 2009, the Cloud 20/20 contest is aimed at catalyzing innovation in cloud computing. Unisys announced the contest results at a day-long event held at the ITC Royal Gardenia in Bangalore. Professor Sadagopan, Founder Director of International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bangalore, was the guest of honour at the event, the highlights of which were paper presentations by the five finalists, a panel discussion on ‘Cloud Computing Trends to Watch for in 2010 and Beyond', and talks by prominent speakers from the industry.
